Religious Exemption in VAWA
The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) is our nation’s single most effective tool in responding to the devastating crimes of domestic violence, dating, violence, sexual assault, and stalking – providing life-saving programs and services.
This year VAWA is up for reauthorization, and we want to ensure that victims and survivors are being prioritized and protected from discrimination by faith-based organizations receiving federal funding. Faith shouldn’t be used as a rationale for discrimination in hiring or service provision. It is essential that protections for vulnerable communities are strongly safeguarded.
